Love

Second Week of Advent

Second Wednesday of Advent

Say  We know that God loves us. He loves us so much he sent Jesus to save us. We know that nothing can separate us from God’s love.  We know he delights in us and is always with us. Now, what are we called to do?

Read Mark 12:29-31

Light the two purple candles.

Say When the scribe asks Jesus which command is the most important, he is referring to the over 600 laws recorded in the Torah, or the first five books of our Old Testament. Jesus begins by quoting the Shema, which comes from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 . This was scripture that the Jews would have recited daily, sometimes multiple times a day. But then Jesus adds something to the end.

Ask Who does Jesus tell us to love? Who is our neighbor?

Say When we say we want to be more like Jesus, we must love God and love people. This is easy to say but hard to do. But as we are on our way to Bethlehem during Advent, we are challenged to love the people we meet along the way.

Ask What are some ways to show your love for God? What are ways to show love to your neighbor?

Pray God, Help us see the people around us the way you see them. Lord, you have shown us great love. May we show love to you and our neighbors. Amen.
